Does PokeHive give an official card grade?

No. The Pre-Grader only estimates centring from a photo and shows the highest PSA grade that centring alone would allow. Corners, edges and surface also decide a grade, and only an in-person submission to PSA, BGS or CGC is authoritative.

Does my photo get uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is processed entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server unless you separately choose to save a card photo to your collection.

What makes a good scan?

A straight-on shot that fills the frame, on a plain contrasting background, in even light with no glare, at least ~1000px wide. Camera angle and lighting are the biggest sources of error.

Why does my Mint-looking card only show PSA 8 or 9?

Centring caps the grade. If the border is off to one side, the card can't reach PSA 10 no matter how clean the corners and surface are. Under a loupe, small centring and corner issues show up that the eye misses.
